Avengers Theory: Did Thanos Time Travel At The Ending Of Infinity War?
Posted by MICHAEL Clarke on
Faithful to his promise, Thanos withdrew from the universe and retired, becoming a simple gardener. That concept was actually raised from the original comics, where Jim Starlin's Infinity Gauntlet miniseries finished with Thanos seemingly encompassing a simple life.
Did Thanos move back through time at the ending of Avengers: Infinity War? In one pivotal scene, Thanos spoke to Doctor Strange and told his grand vision. A petrified Strange urged what would happen next, and Thanos gave a shocking reply.
Exactly where did Thanos depart to? Or is it likely the correct question is - when? It's really possible Thanos has actually tried to evade anyone who would attempt retribution against him by using the Time Stone.
Thanos has apparently withdrawn to a place of peace and serenity, considering his horrific purpose to be subsequently accomplished. The Titan we saw in Avengers: Infinity War indeed wasn't a place of harmony. According to Thanos, it had befallen victim to the ravages of overpopulation, and some sort of trouble - likely a food deficiency - had directed to the smothering of his race. Across the progression of the film, this plainly got critical; Thanos hauled a moon out of circuit around his homeworld and lunged it at the Avengers.
Avengers: Infinity War ending barely gave observers an impression of Thanos's isolation. The illumination and overall colour design heavily suggested that he 'd went back to his homeworld, Titan. This has recently been validated by concept designer Pete Thompson, who's printed some beautiful Avengers: Infinity War concept artwork on his portfolio website, including a view of the final scene, labelled "Titan Thanos garden (post-production) Pre Production by Chris Kessler". It's a beautiful design, apparently inspired by the famed Banaue Rice Terraces of the Philippines.
Even stranger, the kind of environment Thanos has retired to doesn't just come about naturally. And yet Thanos claims his homeworld has been unpopulated for untold years. We mainly have two versions of Titan; the one we saw at the beginning of the film, and the one Thanos retire to at the end. I guess we'll know if this theory is correct in Avengers 4.
